HARDWARE ENGINEERING CO-OP
LOCATION: Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions, Kanata, Ontario
MAJOR: Electrical or Computer Engineering
LEVEL: Minimum 3rd year
CWCDS's creative and innovative environment has propelled us to the forefront of embedded systems and COTS module development. We are world leaders and a technological pacesetter for embedded systems solutions in harsh environments.
Opportunities exist within the SBC and MCOTS IPT for new product development for 3rd or 4th year Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering Co-op students. The selected candidates will join a dedicated team of Engineers engaged in the design and development of rugged advanced circuit card level products based on the IEEE 1014 (VMEbus), VPX, CompactPCI, and PMC/XMC standards, as well as custom architectures. Products such as Single Board Computers, Graphics Processors, Intelligent Communication Controllers, and Communication Switches are continually being developed by the CWCDS Engineering team to meet the requirements for operation in our customer's harshest environments.
Enjoy the challenge and the rewards of circuit card development using microprocessors, memories, peripherals, FPGAs and CPLDs in high speed digital applications. Our products make use of the latest in component technology such as Freescale PowerPC processors and NVIDIA and AMD Graphics Processors. - The product development process including concurrent development in a multi-disciplinary team covering electronic design, test development, mechanical design, thermal design, components engineering, PWB design, thermal management, reliability prediction, and configuration management

INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING CO-OP FOR QUALITY AND PRODUCT TRANSITION
LOCATION: Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions, Kanata, Ontario
MAJOR: Industrial Engineering
LEVEL: Minimum 3nd year
An opportunity exists within the Quality and Product Transition (QPT) team for an Industrial Engineering Co-op student. The selected candidate will join a dedicated team of Product Performance Engineers engaged in driving yield improvements and corrective actions across selected products. This project which drives operational excellence was tremendously successful in 2009 and in its second year requires additional reporting tools and data mining efficiencies. The selected coop candidate will be part of QPT team helping drive yield improvements.
There will be exposure to other disciplines such as our embedded software, mechanical engineering and PWB development teams and our in-house manufacturing facility to help enrich the experience and to assist in developing well-rounded Engineers. The successful candidate will participate in a structured approach to root cause analysis and team based problem solving. He/she will analyze trends in failures seen within major product families and contribute to improving data-mining efficiency.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP

We are looking for a co-op student with "C" programming experience that likes working at the hardware/software interface level and does not mind getting his/hers hands dirty by playing with oscilloscopes, digital analyzers, or whatever tools are required to get the job done.
You will gain experience and have opportunities to learn in some of the following areas:
- Software Design, development and Testing on the latest Embedded Systems devices in the PowerPC family of processors.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER CO-OP

Opportunities exist within the Single Board Computer, Graphics and Communications integrated product team for creative software developers who have a passion to invent, design and implement embedded software (predominately C) along with a curiosity and desire to learn. As a member of this team, you will have an opportunity to participate in the development of Firmware, Board Support Packages (BSPs) and device drivers for both Wind River's VxWorks real time operating system and Linux, Built-In-Tests (BIT/POST), low level device initialization (firmware), and software test automation using state of the art tools in both UNIX (Solaris/Linux) and Windows development environments.
The developed software is for use on our single board computers, graphics and video capture modules, switch and security products based on industry standards such as CompactPCI, VMEbus and VITA46 (VPX). These products feature high performance embedded processors (PowerPC, graphics processors from AMD/ATI and NVIDIA and Broadcom communications processors), Ethernet, USB and serial communication interconnected using high speed parallel and serial bus technologies such as PCI-X, PCI Express and Serial RapidI/O.
You will be part of the product development team, including hardware, mechanical and test engineers, engaged in the design, integration and testing of our next generation products – some in progress and others in the concept phase. There will be ample exposure to all aspects of the software development process from requirements definition to release in an ISO certified environment.

TEST SOFTWARE DEVELOPER CO-OP

Opportunities exist in Test Engineering for an Engineering or Computer Science Co-op student. The Test Engineering group provides an opportunity to learn about both hardware and software design. Positions can be catered to the strengths and goals of the candidate.

DESKTOP SUPPORT CO-OP
LOCATION: Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions, Kanata, Ontario
MAJOR: Computer Science, IS
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives and classifies support requests through various channels (helpdesk, email, phone, in-person)
- Documents and verifies all pertinent request information
- Resolves or escalates support requests in a timely fashion.
- Performs hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware and configuring systems and applications
- Records, tracks, and documents the helpdesk request resolution process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution.
- Provides excellent customer service through all phases of the request process, with a focus on strong communication and building a rapport with help desk customers.
- Partners with others in the IS department to ensure timely ticket resolution
- Identifies and learns appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.
- Network related projects as required.
- Support network administrator(s) in their tasks as they relate to PCs.

Support Sharepoint Environment by performing the following tasks:

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, REPAIR & WARRANTY SERVICE CO-OP

The Electrical Engineer, Repair & Warranty Service Co-op will support Quality Engineering and the Business Unit in the analysis of field returns process by the RWS department. Working with the debug technicians and the various data collection systems, the incumbent will develop analytical tools to help identify trends, generate metrics and support the requirements for effective corrective actions.
You will gain experience and have opportunities to learn in some of the following areas:
- Assist the RWS department with weekly and monthly performance reports and develop trend charts/metrics.
- Participate in failure investigations based on trend analysis or customer requests.

The selected candidate will be part of a team engaged in the maintenance and deployment of the Corporate SharePoint Environment that enables cross site communication and team site workplaces. The tools used at CWCDS are industry leading and will provide the student with real world experience in the infrastructure required to produce a cutting edge a SharePoint Environment. Preference is given to those students with excellent website design skills/experience and a keen desire to learn.
